What are hyaluronic acid skin fillers?

Dermal Fillers are made from hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the body that helps maintain skin hydration, softness, and volume. These advanced fillers are designed to restore lost volume, smooth facial wrinkles, and enhance natural contours which provide subtle definition to areas such as the cheeks, lips, and under the eyes.

These products are safe, FDA-approved, and highly customizable, allowing treatments to be tailored to your unique facial anatomy and aesthetic goals. The result is a refreshed, youthful, and radiant appearance that still looks like you only more rested and naturally enhanced.

Most sessions are quick, but some could last between 1 to 2 hours, depending on the areas being treated. Depending on treatment goals a customized plan will be made for you possibly requiring multiple sessions to gradually reach your desired goals.

Are skin fillers safe?

While Dermal Fillers at Savannah Beauty Aesthetics are considered generally safe they still do carry potential side effects and risk like any other cosmetic procedure. Mild swelling, bruising or tenderness may occur but usually resolves within a few days. There is little to no downtime, allowing you to return to your normal activities right away. Aftercare guidelines include avoiding excessive heat, sun exposure, alcohol, and strenuous exercise for the first 24 hours.

When will I see results and how long do they last?

Results will be noticeable immediately after treatment however due to swelling and potential bruising, it's best to wait a few days to a weak for potential side effects to resolve. Longevity of results depends on the filler selected, the area treated, and personal factors such as metabolism and lifestyle. Most hyaluronic acid fillers provide beautiful results lasting 6 to 18 months, with maintenance treatments every 6-12 months to ensure optimal results.

Is the procedure painful?

Discomfort is minimal the number of injections with a small needle depends on the treatment goals to obtain desired results. Most fillers contain a small amount of lidocaine, an anesthetic for facial contouring. A topical numbing cream will be applied to lips only and can be applied to ensure a comfortable experience. Lidocaine will cause a numbing experience, but you will still be able to slightly feel during the procedure still. Blanching and redness is a common side effect from lidocaine.

Can Dermal Fillers be reserved if I don't like my results?

Hyaluronic acid fillers are reversible, which provides an added layer of safety and customization, especially for lip treatments. In certain cases, fillers can be partially or fully dissolved using an enzyme called hyaluronidase. This injectable enzyme breaks down hyaluronic acid, allowing the body to naturally absorb the filler and enabling correction of overfilling, asymmetry, or filler placed in an undesired area.

For Lip filler patients who have had multiple injections over time may experience filler migration, uneven texture, or excessive fullness. In these situations, dissolving existing filler prior to injection may be recommended to create a clean, balanced canvas. This approach allows for more precise shaping, improved symmetry, and softer, more natural-looking results when new filler is placed.

Dissolving is always performed thoughtfully and conservatively, based on facial anatomy, prior treatment history, and individual aesthetic goals.

What is a vascular occlusion and is it common?

A vascular occlusion is a rare complication that can occur when dermal filler affects blood flow in a small blood vessel. While uncommon, it is taken very seriously. Your provider is trained to recognize early signs and act immediately. When hyaluronic acid fillers are used, an enzyme called hyaluronidase can be injected to dissolve the filler and help restore normal circulation. Warm heated packs and gentle massage may also be used to encourage blood flow to the area, which is important for supporting healthy tissue and healing.

What are some risks of Dermal Fillers?

Overfilling (especially in the lips) can increase pressure in these delicate areas and raise the risk of complications such as filler migration, uneven texture, or vascular compromise. For patients who have had multiple lip filler treatments in the past, dissolving old filler before reinjection may sometimes be recommended to create a clean, balanced canvas, allowing for safer treatment and more natural-looking results.
